Why We Chose Recycled Paper & Australian Made
When we created our range of greeting cards, we set out to do more than just craft a design on paper—we wanted to provide thoughtful and considered cards that people want to display in their homes, without compromising on our commitment to a sustainable, beautiful world. We believe that the choices we make about our materials, our production methods, and our partners have an impact that goes beyond the card itself. One of our core commitments is using 100% post-consumer recycled paper, and we’re proud to have partnered with Print Together, an Australian printer whose values align with ours. Here’s why choosing recycled paper matters to us, and our planet.
Choosing an Australian Printer with Strong Environmental Principles
We researched all different printers, finishes, inks and techniques, to find someone who we felt had a similar view of sustainability and waste reduction without compromising on the quality of the end product. We landed on Print Together, who are based in Australia, and shares our dedication to sustainability, sourcing only recycled paper.
We can support the local economy, reduce our carbon footprint and ensure that every card we produce aligns with our commitment to quality and finish.
Sustainably Managed Plantations, Virgin Fibres & Pre-and-Post Consumer Waste - What is the Difference?
More and more papers are produced through sustainably managed forest plantations and of course, this is better than logging virgin forests, however, there are many additional environmental benefits of choosing paper that is 100% post-consumer waste - one being that it uses about 75% less water in production than its virgin-fibre counterpart.
POST-CONSUMER VERSUS PRE-CONSUMER WASTE IN RECYCLED PAPER
Pre-consumer recycled paper is made from factory scraps and unused materials that never reach the consumer, like trimmings or rejected items. Post-consumer recycled content, on the other hand, comes from items consumers have used and recycled, like paper and cardboard from juice containers, and helps keep waste out of landfills. While both types are better than using no recycled content, post-consumer content generally has a bigger environmental impact because it directly reduces landfill waste.
Finding the Right Recycled Paper
We sampled a few recycled paper options, paying attention to the quality, finish and printing results and decided on a 300gsm EcoStar 100% Recycled Uncoated paper. It’s made from 100% recycled post-consumer waste, is bright white, and is designed to be as strong, bright, and high-quality as non-recycled paper. Plus, it’s carbon neutral, making it an eco-friendly choice without sacrificing print quality or durability.
Printing Technology in Reducing Environmental Impact
The printing process uses HP Indigo printing technology, a high-quality method that’s particularly suited to designs with rich colours and intricate details, such as our designs. Unlike traditional printing that sits atop the paper, HP Indigo allows the ink to bleed slightly into the paper, creating a smoother, more integrated matt finish.
The HP Indigo process uses a unique liquid ink that combines the advantages of conventional dry toner with eco-conscious properties.
Avoiding Certain Finishes Like Foiling
While adding foiling, metallic inks and laminated finishes are appealing at Christmas time, and can be really beautiful, we’ve made a conscious choice to avoid them in our cards. These finishes can make recycling nearly impossible and contribute to harmful landfill waste, leaking toxic compounds into the soil and water. Instead, we have carefully designed our cards to be visually captivating in their designs alone, and believe they offer elegance without sacrificing sustainability.
Beautiful Greeting Cards That Don’t Cost the Earth
Our goal is simple: to craft luxurious, premium greeting cards that are intentionally designed, carefully curated, and support our local economy—all while minimising environmental impact.
With each card we produce, we aim to celebrate both the beauty of art and the importance of sustainability, bringing joy to our customers without costing the earth. Whether it’s through our choice of recycled paper, our commitment to avoiding hard-to-recycle materials, or our support for Australian-made products, we are dedicated to creating a positive impact through every card we make. When you choose our cards, you’re choosing to support a sustainable future—one beautiful card at a time.
